 任务型阅读() 现代科技+事物介绍

A [2020·原创]

  You wake up in the morning. A soft light turns on in your room. You go into the bathroom and the shower starts. After your shower, you go into the kitchen. Your favorite breakfast is already cooked, and it's on the table, ready to eat. Now it's time to go to work. It's rainy. You live alone, but you find that your umbrella is already by the door.

  How is all this possible? Welcome to your future life!

  Technology will allow homes in the future to be smart. Household machines will communicate with each other—and with you. Your stove will tell you when your food is cooked and ready to eat. Refrigerators will suggest recipes based on food items you already have.

  The technology is possible because of tiny information-storing devices called RFID chips. Future RFID chips will store information about all the things in your cupboards.

  Are you tired of the color of your walls? In a smart home, you won't have to repaint them. The walls will actually be digital screens, like TV screens. The technology is called OLED, and it's here already. OLED walls will become clear, like windows or display colors and patterns.

  A computer network will link these walls with everything else in your house. Called ambient intelligence(环境智能), this computer brain will control your whole house. It will suit your preferences. Your house will learn about your likes and dislikes. It will then use that knowledge to control the environment.

  But how about your cooked breakfast and the umbrella you found by the door? For those, you can thank your robot helper. Futurologists predict that many homes will have robots in the future. Robots already do many things. But scientists today are starting to build friendlier, more intelligent robots—ones that people will feel more comfortable having around in the house.

How soon will this smart home be a reality? There's a good chance it will be a part of your life in 25 or 30 years, perhaps sooner.

B [2019·石家庄28中模拟]

  When we think of a sandcastle(沙堡), it is usually a beautiful building but it is not suitable to live in. However, two early built sand hotels are built in the cities of Oss and Sneek, in the Netherlands(荷兰), during the popular sand sculpture festival(沙雕艺术节) every year. People can experience life in them. Here is something useful about the sand hotels.

  The developer, Zand Hotel, said the idea to build the huge sand hotels came from the ice hotels. However, visitors to those have to sleep on ice beds in low temperatures and have no electricity or Wi-Fi. But the guests at the sand hotels don't have to face the difficulties.

  That's because the buildings may be made of sand, but each room has all the things of a common hotel, such as wood beds, showers and toilets. So, they can rest easily. Each room also has running water, windows, electricity and Wi-Fi. It only costs $172 a night, even including a European breakfast and a free tour of the nearby sand sculpture festival.

  Building the sand hotels wasn't easy. It took five weeks and over 2,000,000 pounds of sand to build each room. Not surprisingly, the one-of-a-kind hotels are a huge hit with both locals and visitors. And they have been fully booked since they opened in early May. Unluckily, with the sand festival drawing to a close, the buildings will soon have to come crumbling down(坍塌). The one in Sneek will shut its doors on September 29th while the other is planned to close on October 4th. But don't be sad. The developer already has plans to rebuild the sandcastles in the Netherlands next year, and also plans similar festivals in the U.K. and Germany.
