Cressida Cowell is the writer and illustrator(插图画家) of “How to Train Your Dragon”. She is the new Waterstones children's laureate. A laureate is someone who receives an award for some kind of honor. Cowell will be laureate for two years. She plans to share the magic of books.
Cowell wrote stories about Hiccup and his dragon, Toothless. She has sold more than 11 million books around the world. The stories have also been made into movies.
The reading group BookTrust runs the laureate program in the United Kingdom. The program is supported by Waterstones, which sells books. The program began 20 years ago. Every two years, it honors a children's writer or illustrator.
