A

文本框: How to keep friendships longer?
Talking: Student friends did want to be close when they take part in certain types of talking—catching up with their lives, talking playfully, having serious conversations, and showing love and attention.

Making friends can make some shy people feel terrible. After moving to a new city, you might face with a group of strangers, but what's the next step? And how long does it take to move past getting to know you? Unfortunately, there's no practical way for this important life skill.

But University of Kansas researcher Jeffrey A. Hall has helped develop the process of friendship-building in a new study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. It is the first to discuss not just what activities bring us closer to know others, but exactly how many hours it takes for acquaintances(熟人)to become friends.

文本框: How many hours do people need for making friends?
It takes students 43 hours and adults 94 hours to turn acquaintances into common friends.
Students need 57 hours to change from common friends to real friends. Adults need,on average,164 hours.

Hall surveyed 112 college students every three weeks during their first nine weeks at a Midwestern University. He also gave a one-time questionnaire(问卷调查) to 355 American adults who had moved to a new city in the past six months. In these surveys, the new-comers picked a friend or two and reported how much time they spend together, what activities they do, and how close the friendship is (how close they feel, and how much they admire their friends' special characters).

不出所料的是, 两个人在一起的时间越多, 他们的关系就越亲密。Everyone wants to have friends, but you can't have friends without making them, says Hall. Making friends takes time.

Hall shows that it takes adults more time to make friends than students because there might be something about student life that develops friendship—perhaps the close quarters of college living makes fast connections.

文本框: Activities: A few activities are more common in closer friendships: relaxing and hanging out and (for adults)watching movies and playing video games.

But time its own does not work. It depends on how we spend that time, as Hall found when he said what activities friends did together. As Hall points out, friendship isn't a one-sided behavior. Some connections will disappear, while others will be active—and it's not always in our control.

Swine Flu(猪流感)

Spread of this H1N1 virus(病毒) is thought to be happening in the same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people with the disease. Sometimes people may become ill by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

How long can a sick person spread this virus to others?

At present, it is believed that this virus has the same properties(属性) in terms of spread as seasonal flu viruses. With seasonal flu, studies have shown that people may be spreading
