Earlier this school year, a yoga room opened up in our school for students to use as one of their options for a rest activity. My classmates and I decided that we were going to test it out and see if it was any good or not. We signed up in the cafeteria so we could go.
When we walked into the studio, we were shocked to see how many yoga mats(垫) there were! We all took off our shoes and picked yoga mats that were next to each other. Then, the yoga teacher put on some relaxing music and we started.
First, we sat in either the half lotus(莲花式), full lotus, or Indian style poses. Half lotus is one leg over the other. Full lotus is both legs over each other. And Indian style is crisscrossed(十字交叉) legs.
If we felt full of energy, we would put our hands down during our pose. If we felt tired, we put our hands up. Then, we did sun salutations(拜日式). One example of this is when you put your hands together and welcome others to do yoga with you. Finally, we did a couple of other yoga poses together. One pose was the downward dog(下犬式). The yoga pose made me think of dogs.
We all enjoyed this activity. We've gone back to the studio several times since then. It's a nice way to take a break in the middle of a busy school day.

Many years ago, I saw a homeless woman in thin clothes entering the student public room. She started coughing when she sat down on a sofA.Clearly, she wasn't well. Without thinking too much about it, I went to the Student Affairs Office where I knew I could find clothes in the “Lost and Found” box. I gathered her up all clothes and as I made my way back, a co-worker warned me not to help this person because it would only lead to her wanting more help. I ignored(忽视) her warnings and carried on.
Two weeks later, a lovely elderly man came to my office and asked to speak with me in private. Curious, I gave him my full attention. He went on to tell me that he had overheard(无意听到) the conversation with the co-worker about helping the painful woman. He wanted me to know that it was always okay to help people, and that was why he wanted to give me a check for $1,000! I burst into tears, because I really needed the money at the time, but also because I had never been recognized(赞美) in such a way for helping someone! We became good friends and, twenty years later, he even offered me $120,000 to buy my dream house.
I asked him what made him offer me such a large present. He said it was because I was a “giver” and that I deserved(值得) it. I was able to own the perfect little home for me, all because one day I helped a homeless woman without thinking too much.
