Building a house sounds like a big project. But some students at Chesterton High School in Indiana, the USA, are learning such skills.
This school has offered a construction(建筑) course called “building trades”. When the course began last year, 36 students with interest succeeded in attending it. With the help of their teacher Tom Garzella, these students learned to build houses. Garzella said that about one fifth of his students might go into the construction industry in the future.
In the beginning, students worked on some small projects and that gave them more skills. But since last September, they have been working on their first modular(模块化的) house. The house, with 97 square metres in size, has three bedrooms. It is near the school's tennis court. Right now, the students are busy putting up the electric wires inside the home.
The project gives students a chance to see the construction process(过程) from start to finish. They can learn how to follow blueprints(蓝图), and more importantly, working with others is also part of the project.
