Students at No. 11 Middle School in Hangzhou, China, may have to think twice before getting distracted(分心) in class as a new facial recognition system will be scanning their faces every 30 seconds to make sure they are paying attention.
Called a “smart classroom behavior management system”, the new monitoring solution has recently been installed at Hangzhou’s No. 11 Middle School. It has an AL-powered software that analyzes(分析) the students’ facial expressions and general behavior and assesses(评估) (A) they are enjoying lessons or not.
The AL is able to (B)pick up seven different emotions, including neutral, happy, sad, disappointed, angry, scared and surprised, and will send a notice to the teacher to take action if it detects(察觉) that one or more students are distracted during class. The data gathered by the surveillance(监督) system could also be used to evaluate(评价) teachers’ performance. So far, it has only been installed(安装) at this school in Hangzhou, (C)but if results turn out great, it could be used widely across China.
“Maybe some kids think that it will be watching them the whole time and make them nervous, but they are maybe making too much out of it, because they will feel pressured, but that’s not the point of it,” one teacher at No. 11 Middle School said. “It’s about getting the children to learn properly the whole time they are in class.”
One thing this teacher is definitely right about is the kids being freaked out by the high-tech cameras recording their every move and facial expression. Some are already changing their behavior because of this.

A sea of green gardens are around Windsor Castle(温莎城堡) in the English countryside. It looks out onto the River Thames and sits next to a hunting ground where animals are hunted. It was built just outside of London to protect the capital from enemies on the west side.
(A)Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest castle in the world. It was built just after 1066. The castle has a long, rich and troubled history. If the castle walls could talk, they would have many stories to tell.
Kings were born and died here. It’s been used as a home for kings and queens for centuries. However, it was also used as a prison during the English Civil War (1642—1651). King Charles Ⅰ was even a prisoner there. During World War Ⅱ, the royal family secretly slept at Windsor Castle (B) it was safer than London’s urban(市内的) areas.
Today, Windsor Castle is the private home of Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ. When she is not meeting guests at Buckingham Palace, she stays at Windsor Castle. But that’s not all. (C)温莎城堡向公众开放。 It is now one of England’s most popular attractions. Visitors can look at some of the world’s finest works of art, including the paintings of Rembrandt(伦勃朗), as well as enjoy its well-kept gardens. What is a better way to learn about England than to enjoy some of the country’s finest scenery?
