When I was 13, my only purpose was to become the star in our football team. That meant beating out Miller King, who was the best 11 at our school.
Football season started in September and I worked hard that summer. I carried my football everywhere for 12 .
Just before September, Miller was hit 13 a car and lost his right arm. I went to see him after he came back from hospital. He looked very pale, but he didn’t cry.
That season, I 14 all of Miller’s records while he could only sat on a chair and watched all the games. Later I was named the most valuable player. 15 , I often had nightmares at that time. In the crazy dreams I was 16 Miller’s accidents.
One afternoon, I was crossing the field to go home and saw Miller stopped in front of a fence(栅栏)—which wasn’t 17 to climb if you had both arms. I’m sure I was the last person in the world he wanted to 18 . But although difficult, he acceptedthe challenge. I helped him move 19 over the fence. When we were finally safe on the other side, he said to me, “You know, I didn’t tell you this during the season, but you did 20 . Thank you for taking place of me.”
His words freed me from my bad 21 . I thought to 22 , even without an arm he was more of a leader. Damaged but not defeated, he was still 23 me. I was right to have 24 him. From that day on, I grew 25 and a little more real.
