【用法归纳】辨析stop doing something与stop to do something
stop doing something表示“停止正在干的事”,stop to do something表示“停下来去做另一件事”。如：
His father stopped smoking.他父亲戒烟了。
His father stopped to smoke.他父亲停下来吸烟。
注意:stop somebody or something (from)doing something 意为“阻止某人或某物去做某事”,介词from可以省去,但在被动结构中,from则不可省略。如：
The heavy snow stopped the train (from) arriving in time.大雪使得火车没能及时到达。
The boy was stopped from entering the office.那孩子没有被允许进办公室。
