The modern Olympics started in Athens. Its motto is “Faster, higher, stronger.” The Olympic rings are a symbol of the Olympic Games. There are five rings, and they stand for the five parts of the world. The People’s Republic of C hina took part in the O lympics for the first time in 1952. Xu Haife ng won China’s first gold medal in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Beijing hosted the 29th Olympic Games in the year 2008. It was the most wonderful and successful Olympics in the history. Before 2008, there were more buildings, roads and subways to be built. And there were more trees and grasses to be planted. T he environment in Beijing had been improved. For helpi ng foreign visitors, many people, as well as taxi drivers and the old, all learned English. Duri ng the 2008 Olympics, a lot of visitors visited many places of interest, watched the games, tasted Beijing Roast Duck, watched the Beijing Opera and so on. They all thought they were so much fun to be with Chinese.
